Kybella vs. Neck Lift
What’s the Difference?
Aging can change everything about your body, from the way you feel to the way your skin looks and how it performs daily functions. The problem with aging is that it tends to show in wrinkles, sun spots and sagging skin. No one wants to show their age, so we try everything we can to make sure that it never shows. The area that seems to reveal our age the most is the neck and jawline.
We’ve all seen men and women with sagging skin and wrinkles that hang from their necks, and it’s difficult to conceal since there’s not much you can do with over the counter beauty products. In fact, skin simply loses its ability to maintain elasticity and to remain bright, glowing and fresh as we inevitably get older. So, what can you do to be sure this lax skin in your neck doesn’t get that far? Many of our clients ask the same thing, and we offer them two options, a surgical neck lift and nonsurgical injections with Kybella.
So what is a neck lift?
The neck lift is a surgical procedure that High Point Plastic Surgery offers patients to correct underlying muscle, remove excess skin in the neck in order to lift and tighten. Occasionally fat in this area will be repositioned and suctioned out if any excess remains to offer contours of the neck and define the jawline. This procedure is done under local anesthetic, requiring incisions to be made starting behind the ears and around the hairline. Incisions made during the neck lift procedure are done within the natural folds of skin to minimize any scarring from developing.
Neck lift procedures are invasive and need to be done with care. Only skilled plastic surgeons with delicate hands perform this surgery and at High Point, we only offer these procedures done the best in their field. This procedure isn’t for everyone as only those with severe sagging should consider this method. For those that have mild wrinkling and sagging, there are noninvasive options that don’t require the few weeks of recovery time that neck lift does.
Why should I consider Kybella injections?
If you’re thinking about a nonsurgical treatment to help contour and reduce a small amount of neck fat, Kybella injections are the best option for you. Kybella is FDAapproved to help smooth over necklines and offer a slight lift and tighten to the areas that start to show the most. Kybella’s active ingredient is deoxycholic acid, which is naturally produced in the body and recognizable by our tissues. This active ingredient helps to degrade fat cells in the neck and jawline to reduce the amount of excess fat over time. Reducing the fat can help get rid of the problem with loosening skin.
The best part about Kybella is that it can be done during your lunch hour; you can be out of your treatment fairly quickly after a series of injections, depending on how much contouring in the neck you need. Your High Point Plastic Surgery physician will let you know what to expect during your consultation for Kybella. We like to give our clients options that can prevent the need for invasive surgery unless they require it, or the issue is severe. The beautiful thing about Kybella is that we can tackle early signs of aging before they become terribly noticeable without any incisions, anesthesia or recovery. This procedure requires just a few injections, and the serum will do its magic. We take care of our clients, offering them the best and most comfortable cosmetic options.
